SUNSHORE® WATER HEATERS : SOLAR ENERGY CONVERSION &
TECHNOLOGY
Each day, the earth receives more solar
energy from the Sun than the total amount of energy our entire
planet can consume in 25 years. This abundant source of energy can
provide an important saving to the consumer, and help bring a
higher standard of living without harming the environment. The
SUNSHORE® Vacuum Glass Tube Solar Water Heating System does just
that. The infrared spectrum of solar energy can be used to heat
water for domestic and industrial use. Aside from enjoying free
energy, greenhouse gasses produced by fossil fuel based energy can
be avoided, helping to make the Earth greener.
LONGEVITY & EASE OF USE
The SUNSHORE® Solar Water Heating System is simple to install and

Still
have questions? Here are some frequently asked questions and their
answers ...
How does the solar water heater work?
The solar water
heater or geyser relies on warm water rising, a phenomenon known as
natural convection, to circulate water through the evacuated
glass tube collector and to the tank. Hot water storage tank is
located above the absorber evacuated glass tubes. As water in
the absorber heats, it becomes lighter and naturally rises
into the tank above. Meanwhile, cooler water in the tank flows
downwards into the absorber, thus causing circulation
throughout the system.
SOLAR WATER
HEATERS: HOW THEY WORK FOR YOU.
Solar water heaters
provide your home or business with really hot water. But how do
they do it?
Here is a brief explanation to orient you with the components of
the kind of water heater we carry. We hope this guide will increase
your appreciation for this remarkable piece of technology.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
General Explanation of System’s Working Principles
1. Unheated water from source with a certain pressure (eg: 3 bars)
flows into the system
2. As the water gets heated up, certain pressure is built up in the
main water tank (eg: 1 bar). This is due to the difference in
pressure between the unheated water and the heated water and the
principle of hot water rises while cold water sinks
3. As the heated water flows from the main water tank’s outlet pipe
(about 3/4 inch in diameter) to the house’s pipes (about 1/2 inch
in diameter), pressure is further increased to about 1 bar to 2
bars. This pressure is adequate enough for a pleasant showering
experience and for use in the Jacuzzi. The better the house’s
piping system, (eg: the shorter the distance from the main water
tank to the house’s pipe), the higher the pressure generated in the
heated water.
KEY COMPONENTS OF THE WATER HEATER.
Vacuum Tube
Collector The Vacuum Tube Collector consists of the following
parts:
1. Inner glass tube Borosilicate glass (Pyrex®) tube with the
outside surface of the inner tube coated.
2. Selective absorbing coating Layers of aluminum-nitrogen with
aluminum base coated using hit-tech magnetron splutter
process.
3. Vacuum Gap Jacket between outer and inner tubes is evacuated to
form the best insulation and to prevent heat loss.
4. Cover glass tube Concentric to the inner tube, the cover glass
tube protects the entire glass tube.
5. Supporting component Stainless steel metal pieces acts as a
support for the glass tube.
6. Remnant Gas absorbent
7. Absorbing film
How does a vacuum tube heat the water?
A vacuum in its
very basic form is merely a natural insulator, providing for a
heat-loss factor of merely 7%. In other words 93% of the heat
that enters the glass tube is retained and transferred to the
water. The vacuum (similar to our ozone layer) assists
in prevention of radiation and convection.
How hot will the water get?
Up to 97 degrees
Celsius in summer & 70 degrees Celsius in
winter
What happens in cloudy or poor weather?
The vacuum tubes
are leaders in solar technology, operating very effectively even in
cloudy and overcast conditions. There are electric
backup elements installed for those rare “weeks of continuous rain
and poor weather”.
Why are the vacuum tubes better than the old
flat solar panels?
Flat solar
panels make use of triple processes I.e. They (1) absorb/collect
solar energy (2) generate this energy into electricity (3)
make use of the electricity to heat water. However, the
Vacuum tubes heat the water
directly and are therefore far more efficient! Vacuum tube
technology is much less expensive in terms of the
original purchase as well as maintenance and
repair
Aren't solar water heaters really
expensive?
No, check out
our prices! And it depends
on how you look at it – solar systems pay for themselves in
the long run by saving 40-60% of your electricity/gas consumption.
With the ongoing power crisis and the rising utility costs,
solar water heaters are becoming a cost-effective option
indeed.
Will it work in winter?
Absolutely! As
long as you have a trusted and knowledgable installer such as Solar
Systems Pakistan analyzing your location prior to installation, you
will get excellent results even in winter. Our solar collectors on
the roof are coated with a special heat-absorbent surface that
soaks up solar radiation and converts it to heat energy. This
means that the sun's radiation is solely required to operate
the system regardless of the season or temperature outside.
The system even works in cloudy conditions!
Can I get hot water early in the morning and
even in winter?
Yes. Again, you
need a technically good installation by professional installers to
ensure best results. We will make sure the cold water is heated
during the day & it is stored in a specially insulated storage
tank all night. Our insulation prevents the water from losing
heat, so that you have piping hot water the next
morning.
What is solar radiation?
Solar radiation
is radiant energy emitted by the sun, particularly electromagnetic
energy. Basically it means how much sun-light shining down on
us.
Can the Solar Geyser heat water to a high
temperature?
Yes, in sunny
days solar water heaters can bring water to boiling
point.
What low temperature can it be used in?
Yes, your solar
geyser can be used in temperatures as low as -10° C, although
performance is reduced in such extreme conditions but good
heat output is still achieved in mild sub-zero conditions as long
as there is sunlight.
Can the tubes crack in the cold?
No. The solar
geyser has been tested to minus 10º C and works extremely
efficiently in cold climates.
Can the water heaters be used in large scale
applications?
Yes. The solar
water heater can be connected in series or parallel to provide
large scale hot water production for a commercial setting such
as a school, hotel or office building. There is really no limit to
the size of the system.
How does solar help the environment?
Using solar and
other forms of renewable energy reduces reliance on fossil fuels
for energy production, thus directly reducing CO2 emissions.
CO2 emissions contribute to global warming, an environmental issue
which
is now of great concern. The average household can reduce CO2
emissions by as much as 20% by installing a Solar Geyser
System.
Who will install this water heater?
The Solar Water
Heater should be fitted by an authorized and experienced solar
installer who will ensure it is positioned correctly. Our
products must be purchased from us directly for warranty terms to
remain intact.
What happens if one of the tubes breaks?
Firstly, the
tubes are very strong and not easily broken, but if the worst
should happen, solar tubes can be replaced very easily. They
are inexpensive and available though us or may be covered under
warranty. The solar collectors
can operate with several broken tubes, but the efficiency will be
reduced, so it is recommended that broken tubes be replaced
immediately.
What maintenance is needed?
Under normal
circumstances no maintenance of the system is required. Due to the
shape of the tubes regular rainfall and wind should keep the
tubes clean. Should a tube even be broken it should be
replaced.
This, however, is an inexpensive and easy job. Any "handy" person
can install a new tube (while adhering to local health and
safety regulations). Solar collectors can operate with several
broken tubes, however the efficiency will be reduced
slightly.
